Earth Day: How Vaping is Better for the Environment than Smoking
Plastic oceans, climate change, endangered species... these are just a few of the reasons why celebrating Earth Day is so important. It’s a chance for people around the world to raise awareness and take action on behalf of this beautiful planet of ours. At VanGo, we’d like to take this opportunity to talk about a horrible pollutant that doesn’t get enough attention: cigarettes.
Now I know what you’re thinking, cigarettes get a lot of attention! We all know how horrible cigarettes are for public health. We’ve seen the advertisements telling us how cigarettes kill. But did you know that cigarettes also kill our planet?
What’s not talked about enough is how cigarettes are a terrible polluting agent. In fact, cigarette butts are the worst ocean pollutant—even worse than plastic straws! It’s a commonly accepted practice to throw cigarette butts on the ground, but what happens next?
Well, these butts take up to 12 years to decompose. During these 12 years, the 7000+ chemicals in a cigarette leach into the earth, our drains and our water. Not to mention the micro plastics in filters that also make their way into our oceans. All things considered, smoking costs us and our planet, big time.
Vaping, on the other hand, is much less damaging to the environment (and your health!).
Here are four ways vaping is better for the environment than smoking:
1.Vapor vs. Smoke
Cigarette smoke damages the environment by releasing toxic air pollutants into the atmosphere. Vapor doesn’t pollute the air like cigarette smoke as it simply evaporates.
2. E-juice vs. Cigarette Butts
As we’ve seen, cigarette butts are incredibly damaging to the environment. Each bottle of e-juice, on the other hand, is equivalent to about a carton of cigarettes. That’s around 200 butts a week you’ll be saving by making the switch!
3. The Recycling Factor
E-cigarette cartomizers and batteries can be recycled and reused. In contrast, cigarettes are responsible for millions of trees being cut down every year.
4. Micro-plastics
You may have heard of micro-plastics on the news. Basically, they are miniscule particles of plastic that find their way into the environment, our oceans and even our food. Traditional cigarette filters contain micro-plastics. Vape devices do not.
So, the best thing you can do for Earth Day this year? Quit smoking. Start flaving instead.
